Six In The City!

At approximately 1:30 this afternoon eleven men entered an address in the Salford area of Manchester dressed all in Blue. Just before 3:30 these same men left after a rampage, leaving the occupants battered, beaten and confused. One of the victims managed to sneak out half way through before the major disturbance happened but was still clearly shaken.

In fact it wasn't an bunch of hoodlums but the Manchester City Football Club giving their neighbours Manchester United the biggest spanking on their own turf since 1955. That was a 5-0 defeat and was....against us!

You couldn't have dreamt of the scoreline as a City fan in the build up to this derby game and it wasn't evident in the first twenty minutes or so either with City hardly getting a touch of the ball. However on the 22nd minute Mario Balotelli opened the scoring with a neat side footed finish low to DeGea's left. He was then booked for his celebration which involved standing still, lifting up his City shirt to reveal another that said 'Why Always Me'.

City remained a goal up as half time came up and starting the second half neither side made changes, and why would they? United had been pressing and probing the City backline whereas City had been resilient to that pressure as well as snatching a lead. Two minutes in though United had defender Jonny Evans rightly sent off for a blatant bringing down of Balotelli.

Balotelli then added a second after getting on to a beautifully delivered drilled cross from Milner which he couldn't have missed before Aguero then put City fans in dreamland at the Theatre Of Dreams with a little over twenty minutes left.

However there are still a flickering of the old 'typical City' demons still to be exorcised with the capitulation in the Community Shield instantly springing to mind. Darren Fletcher scored a beautiful goal from just outside of the area after a one-two with Hernandez but that was as good as a revival as far as United were concerned. At this point Mancini had already brought off his two goalscorers and replaced them with Nasri and Dzeko as City looked to see out the game.

The claw back goal from United though seemed to refocus a City side that had started to relax and in the 90th minute Dzeko scored after a misplaced pass from Rio Ferdinand goes straight out for a corner. The corner goes to Barry and Lescott hits it off Dzeko and in to restore the three goal cushion.

A minute later and Silva added a fifth to the City tally after being fed by Dzeko. The Spaniard, who had missed an earlier opportunity, made no mistake as he slid the ball coolly under DeGea. The United fans now started to leave in droves although to be fair they had been trickling out since the 70th minute. That is a pity as they missed the last goal as Dzeko and Silva returned to their regular roles of Silva the provider and Dzeko the scorer. Silva fed Dzeko who ran onto the United goal and finished cooley before holding up six fingers to let everyone know exactly how many they had scored today.

After the match some United fans still remained in their seats, maybe they couldn't believe what they had just seen, maybe they were facing the realisation that City are contenders or maybe they are just used to having more stoppage time in their games. Whatever the reason City are top of the League and five points clear of United!
