League Cup, Episode 2: The Bobby and Micky Show!

Manchester City have to quickly but Sundays absolute demolition of Manchester United behind them when they take the field away to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday evening. With City on such a high and some Wolves fans howling for McCarthy blood at the weekend this has all the hallmarks of an upset on the cards.

However I am sure that there will be wholesale changes in the team that is sent out on Wednesday from the one that started Sunday. Although it would be nice to win a cup since we haven't won one for just over 5 months now we do have higher priorities with Champions League getting to the do or die stage and our assault on the Premiership in full swing. Add to that the defense of OUR FA Cup and you can see the dilema.
In Mancini we trust and I am sure that his 'reserve side' which, last time out, included Owen Hargreaves, Kolo Toure, Zabaletta and Wayne Bridge took the spoils from the current cup holders, Birmingham.

The last time we played Wolves in a Cup competition it was in this exact same tournament but back in round two. In those days the tie was contested over two legs and we were struggling in Division Two in September of 1987. Strangely enough it was the home tie we lost 2-1 before going to their place two weeks later and getting a 2-0 result.

The time before that was again in this competition (see we have history with these guys in this Cup!) and was in the 1974 Final. That season was salvaged somewhat by a Denis Law backheel so if we have to lose a Final then a United relegation season is the best season to do it! It helps with the sadness!

That was not all she wrote with the history either! September 8th 1971 we again played them in this competition and beat them 4-3 with Bell scoring a brace, Davis with one and a Francis Lee traditional penalty!

Certainly we are evenly split on the results in this competition with them gaining an edge on actually beating us in a Final but on current form this should be a no brainer. Wolves haven't won in the League since they defeated Fulham in August and suffered defeats against Liverpool, Tottenham, QPR, Newcastle and West Brom! On the flip side of that the two Carling Cup wins were 4-0 and 5-0.

City, like I said at the start, are coming off a 6-1 hammering of United, with wins against everyone we have played in the League besides Fulham, scoring a seasons worth of goals in the process. The solitary defeat in all competitions came in Germany against Bayern Munich.

Possible Starting 11:
Pantilimon, Zabaletta, Kolarov, Savic, Onouha, Hargreaves, (K)Toure, DeJong, Johnson(A) Suarez and  Dzeko.
